FRL Audio Analysis for BBC The One Show
FRL Audio Analysis for BBC The One Show

Forensic Resources Ltd was approached by the BBC's The One Show to analyse an audio clip of a lady who had supposedly given consent to having her phone line switched over to 'Continental Telecom'. Jean is one of many people now affected by this extreme form of cold calling - termed as 'Slamming'. Jean is adamant that she did not consent to the switch over and when presented with the recording of her phone conversation, she noticed that her voice had been edited. It was believed that the first half of the recording was Jean speaking but the second half was not her voice and the word 'Yes' from the first half had been edited to fit the harassing questions posed by the telecom company.
Iain McArthur, an FRL consultant, analysed the clip and found that when analysing the waveform, the first 'yes' sounded completely different to all the other speech utterances from the woman. More importantly, three uses of the word 'Yes' in a row were all identical when compared aurally, graphically (using Spectrum Analysis) and visually (using waveform images). The conclusion that this recording has been edited provided evidence of potential fraud which the industry regulator Ofcom are now pursuing with help from the Police.
