Young Entrepreneurship Strategy (YES) Debate
Global Entrepreneurship Week

Tuesday November 17th November saw Ms. Abigail Carter, Director of Forensic Resources Ltd, take part in the Welsh Assembly's debate for Global Entrepreneurship Week. The Young Entrepreneurship Strategy (YES) Action Plan for Wales will shortly be considered by Welsh Ministers who are actively seeking the views of young people in Wales to share ideas, fears and aspirations for their future.

The Deputy First Minister, Ieuan Wyn Jones, AM, hosted the event for aspiring entrepreneurs to debate ambitions for Wales with existing entrepreneurs at the cutting edge of the Welsh economy. An invited audience of 45 young people aged 16-25 from schools, colleges, universities and those outside formal education, included:

  • Enterprise achievers - Young people who participated in Enterprise competitions
  • Student Enterprise champions - networks for students interested in Enterprise
  • Young entrepreneurs - those currently looking to start a business or considering starting (participating on Prince's Trust and Graduate Start up Support Service (GSS))

Abigail was part of the panel made up of young entrepreneurs who shared their views to the set questions about their business, their education and their own transition from education to running a business.

A range of set questions with multiple choice answers was posed to the audience, using electronic voting to seek and understand students' attitudes and experiences of entrepreneurship. The voting system's aim was to capture individual thoughts, with a follow up of directed questions from the chair to the young entrepreneurs - to compare and contrast ideas and draw out salient points for later discussion.

Speaking after the event, Abigail said:

"It was wonderful to hear from the range of potential young welsh entrepreneurs and to see real hunger and enthusiasm in them for starting new ventures and businesses. The YES strategy is imperative for providing the essential guidance that these students require in order to make their dreams and ambitions reality. The debate was a very well constructed event that enabled the team to get feedback, which will help them provide a reviewed strategy that is even more effective and rewarding. I feel the event was a great asset to the Global Entrepreneurship Week and I look forward to seeing the outcomes of the feedback."
