Forensic Resources as a Dynamo Role Model
Abigail Carter becomes Dynamo Role Model
This year Abigail Carter, Executive Director of Forensic Resources Ltd joined the Dynamo team as a role model in the promotion of entrepreneurship to hundreds of pupils across South Wales. Abigail's huge success with FRL led to Dynamo choosing her to encourage young people to raise their aspirations and realise their own potential. Ordinary people who have done extraordinary things by believing in themselves and their ideas, such as Abigail, have stories to tell that touch upon so many areas of the curriculum, as well as personal and social development and lessons in business, and for many pupils this is the first time that they have met someone who runs their own company.
"The exhilaration of taking control of your own future and being your own boss is a great feeling," says Abigail. "By understanding and explaining the motivations needed to succeed you can encourage and support pupils who in turn raise the level of their ambitions and create opportunities for both themselves and others."
Entrepreneurship has been identified by the Welsh Assembly Government as crucial for its vision of a prosperous, dynamic and sustainable economy. Here in Wales we need to encourage people with imagination, motivation and a "can-do" attitude, and the best way to do this is to let local entrepreneurs do the talking. Active business people within the community such as Abigail have been handpicked to create that initial spark of interest amongst pupils - who learn that there is another way to success. Abigail presents her story in the classroom for approximately one hour; taking time to interact with the pupils through questioning and activities and the exploration of the highs and lows of running a business. This gives pupils the confidence to believe in their own ideas and the realism of achieving their goals. Role models such as Abigail understand the issues facing the communities that they visit and have been trained to understand what it's like to deliver to a wide range of audiences.
Dynamo is delivered locally by Careers Wales and Mentr a Busness, and a specialist Dynamo coordinator operates from each of the delivery organisations. The Youth Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Strategy (YES) provides the strategic direction for all enterprise educational work in Wales. Its aim is to develop and nurture self-sufficient, entrepreneurial young people in all communities across Wales, who will contribute positively to economic and social success in the future. Abigail understands the importance of investing in the future of Wales and will be visiting schools throughout the coming years.
